The Texas Instruments TPS61061EVM-091 evaluation module (EVM) helps designers evaluate the operation and performance of the TPS6106x family of white LED power supply ICs. The TPS6106x family are synchronous boost converters that can power three, four, or five white LEDs in series. The EVM consists of two independent circuits: one using the TPS61061 in the QFN package and the other using the TPS61061 in the chip scale package. The former circuit is equipped with on-board LEDs, jumpers and dimming control to exercise all functional aspects of the IC while the latter is setup to illustrate the small solution size afforded by the TPS6106x family and requires connection to external LEDs.
The EVM is designed to operate with an input voltage of 2.7 to 6.0V. The fixed current regulation setting can be 20 or 40mA. Push button dimming control on the QFN circuit allows the current to be changed in about 1.25mA increments.
The EVM development tool includes a tested evaluation module (HPA091); a user guide (SLVU117) that contains the schematic, bill of material, components placement, layout and the setup of the EVM; and the TPS61060/1/2 data sheet.
The only necessity to use the EVM is a power source, either a DC source or a battery pack with a voltage of 2.7 to 6.0V.
