The MAX542BCPD+ is a +5V, serial input, voltage output 16bit digital to analogue converter (DAC) in 14 pin DIP package. The device operates from single +5V supply and provides 16bit performance (±2LSB INL and ±1LSB DNL) over temperature without any adjustments. The unbuffered output of DAC results in low supply current of 0.3mA and low offset error of 1LSB. The DAC output range is 0V to VREF and 16bit serial word is used to load data into DAC latch. The 10MHz, 3-wire serial interface is compatible with SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE and it interfaces directly with optocouplers for applications requiring isolation. A power-on reset circuit clears DAC output to 0V (unipolar mode) when power is initially applied. For bipolar operation, matched scaling resistors are provided in MAX542B for use with an external precision op amp (such as the MAX400) which generates a ±VREF output swing. It is used in high resolution offset and gain adjustment, automated test equipments and data acquisition systems.
